Just for fun... if the crit did apply for both eviscerate and the exponent...

(37.8 + 56) * 2 ^ (( 3 * 24 - (60 * (1 - 10 / 100))) / 40) = 128.1 damage!

(.24*128.1) + (.76*(58.9+128.1)/2) = 101.8 damage

That's some scary damage

BTW, for those of you playing along at home, I screwed this up. I added +4 to the character lvl not the skill lvl! Oops! Scratch this post!

UPDATE:

After some testing and some frustration I finally nabbed a clean max damage warhammer and a +15% ench customized max damage warhammer.

First off, I had the burning question, is wild blow treated as an attack or a skill? To answer this, I charged out of Yak's bend and started hitting people both with wild blow and without. I noticed that my damage was almost always the same against a given target. I attribute this to the fact that according to ensign's notes, a high lvl char should crit almost constantly against low lvl mobs. Now since wild blow crits and non-wild blow crits hit for equal amounts, and the skill calculation does not include an area to add +4 ranks in the exponent, I'm concluding that wild blow must be calculated as an attack.

Next, with Lina in tow, I headed out from augury and found the first lvl 20 rockshot dev. With 12 hammer, my R/W hit for 42 with a clean warhammer and wild blow.

if this is treated as an attack, that's:
42 = 35*2^((5*16-X)/40)
ln(42) = ln(35) + ((5*16-X)/40)ln(2)
((5*16-X)/40) = .263
X ~= 69.5
So I believe that the rock shot has AL 69.5

Next, lina started protecting me and I swapped over to my +15% while enchanted customized hammer and hit repeatedly for a cool 57 damage.

57 = X*2^((5*16-69.5)/40)
X ~= 47.5176

This is closer to Jenosavel's method than mine by about a point's worth of damage.

So, for what it's worth...

Weapon damage modification seems to work off of base damage and does not interact with other mods. I'd like to know if enchantments and such behave the same way, acting off of base damage and not mod damage...

EDIT: Update, so if we assume that AL must be a whole number, then the AL is 70 and the damge comes out to 47.9 (closer to my 48.3 figure), if we use AL 69 then we get 47.1 damage (closer to Jeno's damage). So in the end I'm still not 100% certain, but I'm leaning closer to Jeno's calc method.

I'm glad you were able to get your testing in, even if it wasn't very diffinitive.

Just out of curiousity, 'cause you didn't mention it, your warrior didn't have any points in strength at the time, correct? I don't see any armor penetration in your calculations to get the Rockshot's AL, so I assume the answer is no, but I'd just like to verify.

I deleted my PvE warrior a long time ago, so I was stuck using a R/W, hence there was no strength involved. This was also a problem later when I needed lina to enchant me, but that's another story

Wow, the knot gets worse, I was rereading the article when I ran across something I had forgotten, you get diminishing returns to a skill over 12, ensign recommended this formula:
Quote:
[Effective Damage] = [Weapon Damage] ?? 2^((2 ?? [Attribute Level] - 24) / 40)
He doesn't explicitly state it, but the prior formula had a -60, I believe that from reading his article, that was an assumed AL. Without a change in AL, the -24 would mean that we have a hidden +36 in there.

Using this, let's try eviscerate as an attack again:
[8.1 + 45] * 2 ^ (( 2* 16 + 36 - (60 * (1 - 10 / 100))) / 40) = 67.68 damage
[37.8 + 45] * 2 ^ (( 2 * 16 + 36 - (60 * (1 - 10 / 100))) / 40) = 105.53 damage

weighting:
(105.53*.24) + ((67.68+105.53)/2)*.76 = 91.14

That's still greater than our target 81 and I haven't even tried adding in the +4 ranks for a crit.

On the skill side of the equation however, we don't have any changes from the earlier calculations. In other words, this still doesn't help.

At this point, I'm about ready to put up the Ensign signal in the sky. Ensign, while I realize that you're under no obligation to respond to any thread, I would kindly ask that if you could tell me how you reached your 81 figure, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks to everyone who's been responding.
